Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1-1¼ cup ground cinnamon about 130g
  • 1 tbsp ground cloves optional, enhances aroma

Equipment

  • Rolling Pin
  • Holiday Cookie Cutters
  • Baking Sheet
  • Parchment Paper
  • Toothpick or Skewer
  • Decorative Ribbon or String
  • Stand Mixer or Mixing Bowl

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 200°F (95°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Combine applesauce, cinnamon, and cloves in a bowl or mixer. Mix until a cohesive dough forms. Adjust with more cinnamon if sticky or applesauce if crumbly.
  3. Lightly dust your surface with cinnamon and roll the dough to about ¼ inch thick.
  4. Use cookie cutters to cut shapes and transfer them onto the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Use a skewer or toothpick to poke a small hanging hole near the top of each ornament.
  6. Bake for 1½–2 hours, or until hard. Let cool completely on a rack.
  7. Once cooled, thread ribbon or string through the holes and tie to create hangers.
  8. Decorate or hang on your Christmas tree, or use as gift tags or garlands.

Notes

These ornaments are not edible. Adjust dough texture as needed. Air dry for several days as an alternative to baking. To refresh scent, rub with cinnamon oil or sand lightly. Store in an airtight container with tissue paper. Can last for many years.
