Ingredients

Sandwich Base
  • 2 rolls ciabatta or crusty bread or baguette slices
  • 4 oz fresh mozzarella cheese sliced
  • 1 ripe tomato sliced
  • 6 leaves fresh basil
  • 2 tbsp balsamic glaze or reduced balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil for brushing bread
  • salt and black pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Sharp Serrated Knife
  • Cutting board
  • Small Bowl
  • Container for Transport

Method

  1. Slice tomatoes and mozzarella into even rounds for uniform layering.
  2. Cut ciabatta rolls or bread horizontally. Lightly brush both sides with olive oil.
  3. Layer mozzarella slices on the bottom half, followed by tomato slices and fresh basil leaves.
  4. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  5. Drizzle balsamic glaze evenly over the ingredients, then top with the remaining bread slice.
  6. Wrap the sandwich in parchment paper or foil for easy transport, or serve immediately.

Notes

To avoid sogginess, assemble just before eating or keep the balsamic glaze separate. For extra protein, add sliced chicken or turkey. You can also spread basil pesto on the bread for added flavor.
