Ingredients

Cake Base
  • 2 cans apple pie filling 21 oz each
  • 1 tsp apple pie spice divided use
  • 1 box French vanilla or yellow cake mix 15.25 oz
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans optional
  • 3/4 cup salted butter melted

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking pan
  • silicone spatula
  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • measuring cups and spoons
  • Oven

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly spray a 9×13-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Spread both cans of apple pie filling evenly in the prepared pan. Sprinkle ½ teaspoon apple pie spice over the filling and gently mix.
  3. Evenly sprinkle dry cake mix over the apple filling. Do not stir.
  4. Sprinkle remaining ½ teaspoon apple pie spice and the chopped pecans (if using) over the cake mix layer.
  5. Pour melted butter evenly over the top, tilting the pan to coat the surface as much as possible.
  6. Bake for 45–50 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. Cool for 10–15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. For variations, try different pie fillings like cherry or peach, or use spice cake mix for extra flavor. Store leftovers covered at room temperature for 1–2 days or refrigerate up to 4 days.
