Ingredients
  

For the Apple Filling
  • 2 medium medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) Choose apples based on desired tartness or sweetness.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar Adjust based on the sweetness of the apples.
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar Adjust based on the sweetness of the apples.
For the Pastry
  • 1 package puff pastry
  • 1 egg for egg wash
  • Cinnamon (optional) Sprinkle on top before serving.
  • Caramel sauce Store-bought caramel sauce works perfectly.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel, core, and dice the apples.
  3. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat, then add the diced apples, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Cook until the apples are tender and caramelized, about 5 minutes.
  4. Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into squares.
  5. Place a spoonful of the apple filling in the center of each pastry square.
  6. Drizzle some caramel sauce over the apple filling.
  7. Fold the pastry over to enclose the filling and seal the edges.
  8. Brush the tops with beaten egg.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
Serving
  1. Serve warm, drizzled with more caramel sauce and a sprinkle of cinnamon if desired.

Notes

If storing leftovers, keep them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. To reheat, pop them in the oven for a few minutes to regain their crispiness. Experiment with different fruits like pears or berries by adjusting sugars accordingly.
